Dr. Steinlauf received his B.A. from Brandeis University. He graduated Cum Laude in 1987 and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Downstate Medical School), and graduated Cum Laude in 1991. He received his residency training in the department of Internal Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center from 1991-1994. After completing his residency training, he was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University School of Medicine and Assistant Attending, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center from 1994-1995 where he practiced Internal Medicine. He then received his Gastroenterology fellowship training at Yale University from 1995-1998. From 1998-2001, Dr. Steinlauf was in private practice in New Jersey, and in 2001, he joined the gastroenterology practice of Drs. Daniel Present, Mark Chapman, and James Marion.

Dr. Steinlauf is fully trained in all aspects of gastroenterology but subspecializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In addition, Dr. Steinlauf is extensively involved in the study of new and exciting research protocols which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of IBD and improve on current management strategies.
