HemWell™

What is the purpose of HemWell™?

HemWell™ is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids. HemWell™ uses non-thermal energy to produce a natural, electro-biochemical reaction in the blood that shrinks and ultimately eliminates the hemorrhoid.

How is HemWell™ performed?

HemWell™ is performed in a surgery center with the patient under anesthesia, typically at the end of a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.

You’ll lie on your left side as the gastroenterologist inserts the HemWell™ probe through an anoscope in your rectum to apply a low electrical current to the hemorrhoid columns.

It is a brief procedure, usually with minimal or no post-procedure discomfort.

What preparation is required for a HemWell™ procedure?

There is no additional preparation beyond what you would do for a colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.

What happens following a HemWell™ procedure?

Most patients feel no discomfort afterward and resume normal activities right away.

Because of the anesthesia, you will need someone to escort you home. You should plan to take it easy the rest of the day, and you cannot drive a car following the procedure until the next day.
